| It's not going to be a Pay-to-Play like WoW.
What they're talking about doing (well, i guess decided on doing) is implementing an RMAH, ie, Real Money Auction House.
I still think this is a stupid idea, because as I understand it they have some intention of allowing or encouraging player vs player combat and I've played too many games where some dick with daddy's credit card absolutely dominates without any skill simply because of real-money purchased items.

| Exactly what Tsu said, I played quite a few games that are free to play, or pay to win. It sucks, and it will ruin any and all games that do it. I would rather pay to play with everyone, than get my ass kicked by some nubcake who has his parent's credit card. | |

| I used to be big into MUDs (MMORPGs played over telnet clients... no graphics, only text). They appealed to me because the pvp in them was incredibly intense, but the best games were the best because they had the best funding, and where do you think that money came from? Some scrub kid with rich parents who would love nothing better than to buy their spoiled ass little brat's love.
It really diminished the fun of the game to have to strive with everything you have, and spend countless hours practicing, just to keep the pace with some twit that's spent $2000 and twenty minutes setting up keybinds on their character.

| I must say I have mixed feelings about RMAH.
The reason why they do that is to make it safe to buy items with real money, because it is indeed something that was gonna happen like in D2.
It's a good thing for those willing to pay, but they would've paid anyway it just make things easier now (more kiddos with dad's credit card).
Those willing to pay will indeed have an edge but the way they seem to incorporate random bonus to every item (including legendary a.k.a. uniques) will make thing probably more even.
Anyway we'll see, Diablo 3 is the game I'm the more excited about in years so I can't wait!
